Shouhua Qi, a native of Nanjing, China, went to the United States to work on his doctoral degree in English in January, 1 989. Now a professor of English at Western Connecticut State University, he has published Western Writing Theories, Pedagogies, and Practices (2000), New Century Guide to Practical English Communication (2000), a Chinese edition of Bridging the Pacific (1 999), two translations of Victorian novels: A Pair of Blue Eyes (1 994) and The Well-Beloved (1998), as well as many columns, essays, literary critiques, and other writings both in Chinese and in English. He has also taught courses in modern Chinese history, 20 th century world history, and U.S. and China relations.
